Talk Changes

Helping people to talk about mental health

Talk Changes is an initiative run by the NHS in the City of London and Hackney, providing information on mental health talking therapies. It was set up with an urgent mission to get more local residents to self-refer, with a backdrop of worsening statistics on mental health in inner cities.

Result

We worked with City & Hackney Commissioning Group to identify the main barriers to self-referring. From several intensive sessions, we identified that empowering content, simplicity of message, as well as strong UX was key to helping more patients engage with the service.

We created a brand name, identity, marketing collateral as well as their simple website. The name that acts both as service identifier and a promise. The logomark is simple, striking and plays, typographically, with the idea of talking. The app-like website, which we designed and delivered, gives people clear, concise information to persuade them to refer. The colour palette is harmonious, intending to support positive mental health, and works chronologically, so that readers are compelled to take immediate action.

(Note – the website has since been developed with trainee support, to engage service users in the process)

“It's Like This helped transform our service by making a clear and compelling case for users to engage with us, at an incredibly important time for us. Their design is fresh, straightforward and we are all thrilled!”
